Operation Christmas Child ~ A Project of Samaritan's Purse
www.samaritanspurse.org ~ occinfo@samaritan.org

The purpose of Operation Christmas Child (OCC) is to share the joy of Christmas and the love of Jesus Christ with hurting children around the world. For the past few years, Powell Valey Covenant Church has participated in this exciting ministry and we can take part in this unique project again this year. Ways to participate include:

  • Gift wrap a shoe box (wrap lid separately) and fill it with age appropriate gifts for a boy or girl. Bring the shoe box to church on Dedication Sunday in November (usually the 2nd Sunday).  In October, flyers giving full details of how to complete a box are available on the table in Fireside Room or log on to their website shown above. A supply of Powell Valley postcards will be on the table -- feel free to use these to send a personal note to your gift box recipient.
  • Donate funds to help pay for shipping costs to send gifts to children around the world. Send check payable to OCC ~ Samaritan's Purse, 801 Bamboo RD, Boone, NC 28607.
  • Pray for the OCC ministry. Pray for the child who will receive your special gift. Pray for the staff and volunteers who are involved in the logistics of this project as they process the boxes and prepare them for shipment around the world.
(National collection week is in November, but you can personally send completed boxes year-round to the above address)

In 2006, Samaritan's Purse was able to reach more than 7.6 million children in over 100 countries with the message of God's love through OCC. In 2007 Powell Valley people provided 126 boxes. Gresham Free Methodist Church (GFMC - 3101 SE Orient Drive ~ 503-663-9146) will be the East County collection site during the November 2008 collection week. As a service project, the Powell Valley Youth Group help as collection hosts at GFMC on Wednesday evening of collection week. If you have any questions, please contact our 2008 OCC Coordinator.
